Social Events

Like any other workplace we have regular & varied social events. In person social events were able to restart at the end of July 2021, at first alternating with Zoom social events, then becoming consistently in person.

Our socials are held in the building and the local community every fortnight outside of normal Clubhouse hours, and there is always food and plenty of laughs. As with any workplace social the atmosphere is a bit different to the normal work day; everyone mucks in as usual but there’s opportunities for members to mix that might not day to day & the boost to building relationships that form friendships beyond our walls is incredible.

Some popular social events have been karaoke nights, Play Your Cards Right and a recent Mystery Evening where staff and members played detective. One member said “It was good fun. I was suspicious of the victim, I thought they were the culprit! There was a lot of chat, that was great!” and another said “I thought it was brilliant!” Members can suggest ideas and lead social events, a great example of this being a Warhammer Night pitched and run by a member with an interest in this game that he wanted to share.

We typically have 3 day trips per year and a larger social event such as a meal out once every few months. A special event this year was Burn’s Night, with members and staff working together to prepare and serve a Burn’s Supper and carry out all the usual traditions. A member said “I thoroughly enjoyed the Burns supper. Members entertained us with Scottish music, poems & songs.”
