We had a new idea to have some time at the business and admin meeting to discuss the clubhouse and what it means to us. We decided to do this as a “Coffee and Chat” session once a month so that we can shape our work based on what members want, and what members get the most out of, by talking to each other. It is an opportunity to show how much we care about FH too. It is important to us to chat to staff and members about what we are working towards together. Around 10 people have attended each one, and we plan to keep having them monthly.
We have chatted about interesting topics, such as “Why do you come to Flourish House?” and “What does choice mean in the clubhouse?”
One member explained:
I come in to Flourish House to know what’s going on, and think about things that are going to help myself, Flourish House, and other people around me. I can share my problems and it makes me feel better. I enjoyed every minute of the coffee & chat. We need to have another one and get members talking. Its nice to hear other people’s opinions. Its not the staff telling you why to come in its the members saying here’s how we think.
I come in to do my job, which is counting the money. I get to handle the money and be trusted. After doing the work, we have food together which we enjoy. This is also a time to sit down and talk together.
Staff and I get a buzz out of working and talking together. During these chats, we learn a lot. It gets you better feelings. Coming to Flourish House, and knowing what you’ve got. These conversations are a reminder of what we achieve, what we do here and what we get out of it.
