Membership

What does your unit involve?

In the membership unit we are one of the first units that welcome new members with open arms. We often go out to different organisations to share what we do here at Flourish so we can get some new members.  Our job is to communicate the opportunities and possibilities Flourish has to offer - bringing the Clubhouse alive for prospective members Our role involves processing applications, running inductions/ outreach and tours so we can give our new members the best start possible. We encourage organisations to share the work we do with the people they support and to link with us to get them started here. Working in membership helps build confidence and inspires personal development - it helps you see how far you have come. It feels good helping others and being part of their recovery journey.

As a member, how could I contribute to the work membership does?

We encourage our members to help out with our tours, outreach and inductions as it is key that our new members hear what our current likes to be involved in. We find that if members share their experiences it promotes independence and may help our new members feel like they can be involved too. Sharing their experiences can make people feel at ease and may encourage them to try new things but also feel supported. Members also have the opportunity to speak out to other organisations or potential members. This is a massive help to the organisation as people love to hear from those involved and the opportunities given.

Can you think of anything you'd like to talk about that you've been proud to be involved in?

The area that I feel most proud of being involved is doing outreach to different places/people. I feel having the responsibility to share the work we do and how we support people through meaningful activity is a key aspect in gathering new members here. Knowing that I am going out to promote a sense of community and positive relationships which not everyone has means that people have a place where they feel they can belong and be themselves.

Can you name a (non-house pet) animal you like?

Panda.
